>>Kannan Ramesh appointed as Judicial Commissioner to Supreme Court of Singapore

Indian-origin lawyer, Kannan Ramesh has been appointed as Judicial Commissioner to Singapore’s Supreme Court bench. He will assume office from 22 May 2015 and have tenure of two years. 

Prior to this appointment, he was the managing partner of Tan Kok Quan. With this appointment Singapore’s Supreme Court will have a total of 10 Judicial Commissioners, 13 Judges and 5 senior judges. 

About Kannan Ramesh In 1990, Ramesh graduated from the National University of Singapore. As a lawyer, he specializes in legal cases related to insolvency and restructuring, dispute resolution, and international arbitration. 

In 2013, he was appointed a senior counsel for his recognition as the best and most skilful advocates in the legal profession. About Judicial Commissioner This post was created in 1986 to get senior counsels from private practices to sit on the bench and help clear the backlog of Supreme Court cases. 

Judicial Commissioners are appointed for a specific period and have the powers equivalent to a judge of Supreme Court.  in 2015 Current Affairs


>> DAC give nod to MCMV project

Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) on 28 February 2015 gave approval for afresh Mine Counter Measure Vessel (MCMV) project worth over Rs 32,000 crore. This decision was taken by DAC meeting chaired by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
MCMV project will built specialized vessels for the Indian Navy as per Make in India policy at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) in collaboration with a foreign manufacturer. These ships will weigh around 600 to 1,000 tonnes and will be used to dismantle antiship mines.

 DAC also gave approval for Buying one C-130J medium transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF) at a cost of Rs. 530 crore. This aircraft will replace a C-130 J which had crashed in 2014 near Gwalior. Buying 38 more Pilatus trainer aircraft from Switzerland a cost of Rs. 1,500 crore. These trainer aircraft will train IAF fighter pilots. It should be noted that DAC is the apex body for clearing defence procurement proposals forwarded by the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.

>> EXTERNAL AFFAIRS MINISTER SUSHMA SWARAJ will be leaving for SRILANKA for two day visit.

     .During her visit she will meet the PM RANIL WICKEMESINGHE and foreign minister 
         MANGALA SAMARAVEERA
     .She also expected meet the president MAITRIPALA SIRISENA.
     .Her visit will set the  stage for PM NARENDRA MODI VISIT TO SRILANKA ON 13TH           MARCH

                On BHUTAN visit he will meet PM TSHERING TOBGAY and the KING JIGME KHESAR NAMGYEL WANGCHUCK.
