board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Gokarn will represent India,
Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan on the Washington-based IMF's Executive Board,
which is responsible for conducting the day-to-day business of the multilateral
institution.

spokesperson Marzieh Afkham to head
its embassy in Malaysia, the foreign minister announced.
“Choosing Afkham as ambassador took a
few minutes but choosing her successor took four months,” Foreign Minister
Mohammad Javad Zarif said at a ceremony in Tehran for the 50-year-old career
diplomat who will be replaced at the ministry by a man, Jaber Ansari.

On November 12, Mahatma
Gandhi had for the first and last time visited Delhi's All ndia Radio
(AIR) studio in 1947 to address the people who were
temporarily settled in Kurukshetra after the partition of
the Indian subcontinent.

appointment of Filippo Grandi as the new UN refugee chief, tasked with handling
the world’s worst ever refugee crisis.
The 58-year-old diplomat would
replace Antonio Guterres, of Portugal, who was high commissioner for refugees
since 2005, said Ban Ki-moon, the secretary general.
He worked for UNHCR in Sudan, Syria,
Turkey and Iraq, and led humanitarian operations in Yemen and the Democratic
Republic of the Congo among other countries.
The appointment was seen as a nod
to Italy, which has been hard-hit by the refugee crisis in Europe, but
also as a recognition of Grandi’s work in several tough UN positions such as
UNRWA.
